George Edward Mynott was born in West Wickham on 19th March 1894 (Linton Q2-1894 3B-497), baptised in West Wickham on 25th March.
The son of Thomas and Lucy Ann MYNOTT (née CHAPMAN). He was always George Edward as a civilian, Edward George as a soldier. 1891 census...His parents Thomas MYNOTT [52] a carpenter born West Wickham and mother mother Lucy Ann [40] born Withersfield, Suffolk were at The Street, West Wickham with his brothers Alfred [18] a farm labourer, Allen J [11], Walter H [9], Ernest R [6], Tyrell J [4], Tom A [2] and Russell W [10 months] and sister Robina D [14] His father ? died in Q1-1892. 1901 census...Aged 7, he was at High Street, West Wickham with his widowed mother Lucy Ann and brothers Walter H, Ernest R, Tyrell J, (all farm labourers), Tom A and Russell W. 1911 census...Aged 17, stock man, he was at Old Farm Cottages, West Wickham with his mother and brothers Tom Albert (groom) and Russell William (stock man). His brother Russell served with the Worcestershire Regiment from 1916 to 1919, in France and Italy. As a conscientious objector Russell seemingly served as a batman and had an unblemished disciplinary record. |

He enlisted in Linton.
The battalion, having taken some German trenches SE of Arras on the 9th, spent the 10th in those trenches and then they unsuccessfully attacked Guémappe, having 33 men killed, on 11th April 1917.
