Ernest Bacon was born in 1893 in Steeple Bumpstead (Risbridge Q3-1893 4A:704), son of George and Sarah BACON (née SMITH).

1901 census...Aged 8, he was at Endway, Steeple Bumpstead with his father George BACON [36] farm labourer; his mother Sarah[33]; sisters Annie [13] and Florence [10]; brothers Willie [12], John [6] and Sydney [2]. All were born in Steeple Bumpstead.

1911 census...Aged 17, a farm labourer, he was still at Endway with his parents; brothers William and John(both farm labourers), Sydney, Charles [9] and Harold [6]; sister Kate [6 months]. The new siblings also born in Steeple Bumpstead.

No pension card found.


Ernest enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds and died of pneumonia in Bury St Edmunds Military Hospital.
He received no war gratuity, not having served for long enough, so it seems he never completed his training or went overseas, hence no medal award. His number indicates he enlisted in May 1915
