Daniel Philip Moore was born in Ridgewell (Halstead Q1-1883 4A:514), son of John Henry and Louisa MOORE (née CHATTERS).
1891 census...Aged 8, he was at Drury Lane, Ridgewell with his father John H MOORE [45] boot and shoe maker born Radwinter; his mother Louisa [45] born Belchamp St Paul; brothers Chris H [17] assistant to bootmaker and John R [12]; sister Elizabeth L [14]. The children were all born in Ridgewell 1901 census...Aged 18, a boot maker, he was still in Drury Lane, Ridgewell with his parents, brother Chris (boot maker) and sister Elizabeth. 1911 census...Aged 28, a bootmaker, he was still in Ridgewell with his parents. After his death CWGC have his parents at 74 Heavitree Road, Plumstead,London. |

Philip enlisted in Colchester. The war diary :-The battalion were in trenches between the Masnieres to Cambrai and the Masnieres to Rumilly roads. On the 21st they had taken heavy casualties, over 100 killed. The entry for 22nd is short:- "The line occupied on the 21st was maintained until 6 pm when the Bn was relieved by a Bn of the Lancashire Fusiliers and marched to Marcoing where it it went into billets". CWGC records give 7 of the battalion killed on the 22nd. |
