Patrick Ormonde John Mascall was born in Romford on 17th March 1915 (Romford Q2-1915 4A:1001) son of John Glover and Lilian Gertrude MASCALL (née PHILLIPS)

In the 1939 register, the family were at Three Chimneys, Ridgewell; his father John G MASCALL [23/4/1878] retired railway paymaster; his mother Lillian [24/3/1884]; brother Philip Glover Mascall [8/1/1905] poultry farmer and Patrick O.J. Mascall [17/3/1915] poultry farmer.


In 1921 there was slight change to the regiment's title from The Queen's (Royal West Surrey Regiment) to the The Queen's Royal Regiment(West Surrey) The 1/5th Queen's, after retreat from Dunkirk, went to the 8th Army in North Africa as part of 7th Armoured, then to Italy before entering Germany and crossing the Rhine on 28th March 1945, finishing the war in Hamburg.

The battalion had six men die that day, only Patrick is resting at Reichswald, the others were buried at Sudweyhe and later moved to Becklingen Initially buried in Wettringen Cemetery, Patrick was moved to Reichswald Forest on 15th April 1947.
