Fred Cooper was born in Ridgewell (Halstead Q3-1893 4A:618), son of George and Susannah COOPER (née ROBERTS).

1901 census...Aged 7, he was at Chapel Green, Ridgewell with his father George Cooper [45] farm labourer born Birdbrook; sisters Elizabeth [17], Rose [10] and Alice (10 months). All except his father were born in Ridgewell. His mother Susannah [42] born Bures, was visiting the Serrett/Windsor family at 3 Garfield Terrace, Tottenham.

1911 census...Aged 17, a farm labourer, he was at North Road, Ridgewell with his parents; sisters Elizabeth and Alice and niece Elsie Muriel COOPER [3 months] whose parentage in unknown.


Fred enlisted in Chelmsford.
He died of his wounds at No 17 Casualty Clearing Station, Remy Siding, Lijssenthoek, Belgium. With no other service records found it is impossible to say where or when exactly he was wounded but the battalion around that time were in trenches just north east of Ypres
