James Fitch was born on 23rd December 1910 in Little Thurlow (Risbridge Q1-1911 4A:883), son of George William and Sarah Ann FITCH (née TAYLOR).
1911 census...Aged 3 months, he was at Locks Cottages, Little Thurlow, with his father George William FITCH[37] horsekeeper; his mother Sarah Ann [31] born Barnardiston; brothers Arthur George [11] and Walter [2]; sisters Emma Alice [9] and Mabel [6]. All except his mother were born in Little Thurlow. In the 1939 register, a bricklayer, he was at Locks Cottage, Little Thurlow were his father [23-1-1873] a farm worker; mother [21-12-1879] and his brother Walter [24-4-1908] a tractor driver. |

The 6th Royal West Kents landed in North Africa during Operation Torch and were involved in the Run for Tunis. The battalion fought throughout the Tunisian
Campaign, helping to capture Longstop Hill in April 1943, and later fought in the Allied invasion of Sicily from July to August 1943. The 6th Battalion was
serving with the 78th Division throughout the Italian Campaign. Service records for WW2 are not readily available outside of next of kin, so it is not known
for sure if James served in N Africa, nor if he died of wounds. illness or was killed in action.
