Noah Hezekiah Crosby was born in 1887 in Ixworth (Thingoe Q1-1887 4A:693), son of Thomas W and Sarah E CROSBY (née KING).

1891 census...Aged 4, he was at Ixworth Heath with his father Thomas CROSBY [31] labourer; his mother Sarah [30]; brothers Thomas [10], John S [8], George W [6], James [5] and William [7 months], all recorded as born in Ixworth.

1901 census...Aged 14, a farm labourer, he was at Green Lane, Ixworth Thorpe with his parents; brothers Thomas, George and James, all farm labourers, William, Harry [8] born Ixworth Thorpe, sisters Alice [5], Olive [2] and Susan [4 months} all born in Ixworth Thorpe.

1911 census...Aged 24, a farm labourer, he was at Ixworth Thorpe with his parents; brothers James, William and Harry (all farm labourers) and sister Olive and Susan. One of the 11 siblings had died


He enlisted in Bury St.Edmunds in the 4th Battalion, Suffolk Regiment, transferred to 9th Battalion.

They were in the Albert area. The war diary :-
12th Oct- Battn in trenches..draft of 5 OR arrived and taken on strength. Casualties 13 O.R. killed, 34 wounded.

CWGC have 16 killed on 12th October, only two with an identified grave.

The Bury Free Press of 2nd December 1916 reported:-
IXWORTH THORPE MAN FALLS IN ACTION

The sad news gas been officially received that one of the lads from this village has given his life for his country. Prvt Noah Crosby, of the Suffolk Regiment has been killed in action. He was a young man of quiet and cheerful disposition, and was held in high regard by a wide circle of friends. Previous to the war he had resided in Canada, but returned home at the commencement of hostilities, and enlisted in the County Regiment. Much sympathy is felt for the parents, Mr. and Mrs. T Crosby
