Charles William Ketteringham was born in Hockham, Norfolk on 5th May 1920 (Wayland Q2-1920 4B:492), son of Ernest Victor and Carolina Maria KETTERINGHAM (née VINCENT).

In the 1939 register at Hargham Road, Attleborough were his father [27-8-1892, a handyman/carpenter/painter; his mother [22-11-1886] and his grandmother Sarah M. KETTERINGHAM [1-6-1853]. No closed records

He married Mary Winifred COOK on 4th September 1940 (Newmarket Q3-1940 4A:4031), later of Little Thurlow. Probate gives his address as 151 Sowley Green, Thurlow, Suffolk. His death was registered in Newbury, Berkshire.


Because of the nature of the Royal Engineers it had units attached to or serving with just about every division in every theatre of the war, and without details of the particular unit to which Charles was attached it is impossible to accurately trace his movements. However, we know that he died in Berkshire just 14 days after his marriage and that he is buried in Great Thurlow, perhaps a relative may come forward with more details He has a private headstone, but is on the CWGC books, and on the Attleborough war memorial.
