Harry Benjamin MASON was born in Woolpit (Stow Q1-1878 4A:581), baptised on 6th January 1878 at St Mary's, Woolpit, son of Frank and Maria MASON (née PAGE ).


1881 census... Aged 3, he was at The Shop, Woolpit with his father Frank MASON [34] grocer/draper born Chelmondiston; his mother Maria [34] born Great Yarmouth; brothers Frank J [8] born Bermondsey, John E [7],Philip P [4] and Alec P [1]; sister Mabel [6]. All the children except Frank were born in Woolpit. Also there was his aunt Elizabeth PAGE [29] born Gt Yarmouth and 7 employees.

1891 census...Aged 13, still at the Shop, Woolpit with his parents, sisters Mabel, Bessie E [6] and Beatrice M [5]; brothers Alec P and Hugh F [8]. The new siblings also born in Woolpit.

1901 census...Aged 23, a draper's assistant, he was a visitor at 37 Carlton Road, East Ham boarding with widowed Jessie BERRY and her family which included daughters Jessie G [20] and Florence [18]His parents were at Kiln Lane, Elmswell with his sisters Mabel and Bessie.

In Q4-1905 he married Jessie Golding BERRY.

1911 census...Aged 33, a draper's buyer, he was at "Hampshire", Gordon Road, Chadwell Heath with his wife Jesse [30] born Victoria Park, London and their two daughters, Muriel BERRY Mason born Manor Park, Essex [29/9/1905] and Gladys Edith MASON born Edmonton [4/12/1907], also there was his brother Hugh, a draper's assistant.


He enlisted in Chadwell Heath, Essex. From his medal index card it is certain that he served abroad. The pension card records that his death was due to "accidental wounds whilst on active service".
He died in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Netley, Hampshire.







The other name is Florence Ethel Berry,(his sister in law), daughter of W J and J E Berry,




Harry Mason is buried in City of London Cemetery and Crematorium, Manor Park, 23.55436
