Charles Samuel BRUNTON was born on 18th February 1897 (Aylesbury Q1-1897 3A:784), baptised in Aylesbury on 16th May 1897, son of Reyner Mayne and Ada Emily BRUNTON (née OLNEY).
1901 census...Aged 4, he was at 72 Bicester Road, Aylesbury with his father Reyner M BRUNTON [31] builder's manager, born Maidstone, Kent; his mother Ada E [30] born Westoning, Beds; sister Rosamund M [6] born Aylesbury, aunt Florence A OLNEY [24] born Westoning and Thomas G TIBBETTS [23] born Banbury On 3rd May 1910 he was admitted to Aylesbury Grammar School from the Council School, leaving 25th July 1912, father a commercial traveller 1911 census...Aged 14, he was at "Rosedene", Dinton near Aylesbury with his parents, father now a commercial traveller. This was his address at probate. Father then a smallholder. The East Anglian Record of 20th April 1918 places him at the school in 1912-1913 |

He enlisted in Aylesbury, having been a motor mechanic at Iris Car Works, Aylesbury.
The third battle of Gazza ended in 7th November 1917 with the capture of the city by the Allies, so it seems that Charles took part in the final operations. At probate he is recorded as dying at the Australian Receiving Station, Jules, Palestine (26 km NE of Gaza). |
