1901 census...Aged 4, he was at Chedburgh Hall, house of the MARSH brothers, farmers, with his father John SMITH [42] horsekeeper; his mother Susannah [45] domestic servant, both born Chevington 1911 census...Aged 14, a telegraph messenger, he was at Chevington Lodge with his parents, father a waggoner on farm. His mother had lost one of her two children. On the pension card his parents were in Hargrave. |
He enlisted in Hargrave. He died from enteric fever in Egypt.
