1891 census...Aged 2, he was at 74 Short Brackland, Bury St.Edmunds with his father Arthur TAYLOR [26] bricklayer's labourer; his mother Edith Ellen [25]; brother Charles Frederick [7]; sisters Ellen [5] and Lily Mary [3]. All were born in Bury St.Edmunds 1901 census...Aged 12 'Robert' was at 26 Long Brackland with his parents (father now maltster's labourer); sisters Ellen, Edith [9], Hetty [6] and Sarah [1]; brother Charles labourer and John[3] 1911 census...Aged 22, 'Robert' a maltster's labourer, was at 20 Long Brackland with his parents, brothers Charles (labourer), Jack (John) (hardwareman's assistant) and William [6]; sisters Edith, Hettie, Sarah and Alice [8]; Grandmother Eliza TAYLOR [77] born Norton. He attested in Southwark on 25th January 1915 for 4th Battalion, East Surrey Regt, posted to 2nd Battalion 27th may 1915 on posting to B.E.F. He gave his age
as 27, a labourer of 405 Southwark Park SE, having served 6 years in Suffolk Militia. Next of kin, father, Arthur Taylor of 20 Long Brackland, Bury St.Edmunds.
He was 5 feet 5.25 inches tall, chest 33 to 35.5 inches. In June 1919,Army Form 5080 has living relatives as parents at 52 Northgate Street with William [14], sister Edith Edna [27], Sarah ]1901 and Alice Mary[17] Brother Charles Frederick [35] was at 80 Cannon Street, Bury St.Edmunds, sister Hettie STIFF [25] was at North Camp, Aldershot.
