"STURMER MEMORIAL"

To the eternal memory of the men of STURMER who died in the service of their country
Eleven in the Great War of 1914-1919 and one from 1939-1945

It is on south side of the Street, near the Village Hall in a small space surrounded on 3 sides by hedging and with a bench seat. The monument consists of a plain stone Latin cross on a very slightly tapering plinth, all on a two step base on a paved area. The two step base has been painted white and has a plaque attached naming the man who fell in 1939-1945. Little of the history has yet been found. Parish Council minutes reveal it was certainly there before 19th February 1921
On the road facing side of the plinth is incised, and black painted, the dedication and names of the fallen:-

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn
At the going down of the sun, and in the morning,
We will remember them.
