Allicky Farm, Quy was still his home address at probate.

He enlisted in Cambridge, from his original number of 4568, this was January/February 1916

On the 22nd August the Cambridgeshires were ordered to attack the area east of Morlancourt, towards the Meaulte Road. The attack started badly due to the promised tank support not being arriving. The enemy machine gun positions caused many casualties on the assault companies and the accurate enemy artillery fire added to the chaos. Slowly objectives in some places were taken but the heavy fighting continued. Losses for the 22nd August were 37 men killed and around 100 wounded.
Until Aug 2018 his Military Medal was not recorded by CWGC but this was rapidly corrected when a copy of the Gazette entry was sent in. His headstone will eventually also be corrected.
