Richard Anthony Dewing was born in 1921 in Madras, India(St.Mark,Bangalore N-2-129 /50) son of Major General Richard H DEWING C.B., D.S.O., M.C. and Helen DEWING (née WOGAN-BROWNE). They were once at Binfield, Berkshire, but moved to the Old Rectory, Lidgate.

In the 1939 register his mother [1-10-1898] was at "Crossway",LOndon Road, Easthamptead, Berkshire with his grandmother Caroline WOGAN-BROWNE [28-7-1858]. His father may well have been in the Army. There are 3 closed records.



The battalion was part of 22nd Armoured brigade, 7th Armoured Division. They had been pushed back to El Alamein when Rommel's Afrika Korps were in the ascendancy in North Africa. The battalion had 4 killed this day.
