John Arthur Jolley was born on 14th October 1913 in Balsham (Linton Q4-1914 3B:776), baptised in Balsham on 7th December 1913, son of William and Ellen JOLLEY (née BIGGS ).
He married Elsie May PLUMB in Q3-1939 and they lived at 3 Canterbury Street, Histon Road, Cambridge. He was a stockman. In the 1939 register, at 14 Council Houses,Balsham were his parents, William [4-8-1886] a serving soldier National Defence Corps/Red Cross; Ellen [19-3-1887]; his brother Robert William [5-11-1918] labourer/stockman; grandmother Sarah BIGGS [15-4-1860]; Richard BARTLETT [1-10-1929 and William Bartlett [6-9-1932] The two children possibly evacuees. There is one closed record (quite probably his wife). |
John was captured at Adam Road, Singapore on 15th February 1942 at the surrender of Singapore to the Japanese. He died of cholera at Takunun Camp on the Burma-Siam railway
